Primary Research
For Primary Research, my goal is to; create a relevant questionnaire and get my peers to take part in it and use the results in my research. I intend on reaching out to director Jane Gull and, if I get a response, conduct an interview with her on making a short, and my idea as a whole. I hope to get some insides what it takes to be a director in todays industry.
Google Questionnaire
I decided to create a google forms for my peers to fill in. I then researched different types of profiles and questions to ask in order to make the most out of the primary research. Creating simple yet impactful questions creates meaningful answers to reflect on in my research. The two types of profiles I included were Demographic Profile, and Psychographic Profile. These two distinguish the type of audience that will respond and relate to my project.
Demographic Profiles show me, the interviewer, what age, gender, social status and location. You can achieve these answers by asking questions like what age range do they fit in, what gender they identify with and what political party they associate with. With simple multiple choice questions like these, show me what age, gender and political views my target audience fall under and this will help with what to add and what to keep out when creating the project.
Psychographic Profiles show me as the person creating the questionnaire, what the viewers favourite genre is, favourite actors, tv show, film and also things like their music taste, or preferred way of travel, their favourite way to spend their evenings, and even things like what their relationship with technology is like. All of these topics create a profile that shows exactly what grabs my audiences attention. I can achieve these accurate responses for Quantitative and Primary research by asking questions like; what is your favourite genre of film? simple questions like this give me what I need to progress onto production. I intend on uploading his onto my college google classroom and my Instagram to get my complete target audience, AKA, people who respond to my media.

Demographic Profile
The questions shown here are to give me a demographic profile that my target audience falls into, I did this by asking specific questions to get an idea of who they are as members of society. I achieved by questions like; how old they are, what gender they identify with, and questions on political views and where they are based. This creates a profile that tells me what my target audience identifies with, where they live and their age range. This is called a demographic profile and now I can use this evidence and put it into the practical making of the film, as I know who to aim it as, and what political views to have my characters have. This creates a relationship with the viewer and characters and they can relate with characters their age and with the same beliefs.

These questions relating to demographic, enabled me to understand the target audience will be people aged 16-18 with no political affiliation, who are Colchester based.

who is your favourite actor? with a range of actors submitted, Jim Carrey had the most votes.
Psychographic Profile
Psychographic profiles show what my target audience enjoys and what are their interests. Like their favourite musician, actor and films. These topics create a profile that depicts what things my audience can respond to. You get these answers through questions like what is their favourite music genre, favourite genre of film. These tell me what to add, like what music to use and even what style of filming works by seeing peoples favourite genre and actors. The difference between Demographic and Psychographic profiles is that Demographic is who they are and what they identify with, whereas Psychographic tells me what are their interests and what they can relate to. Both help when creating something because both can show what to include.

In conclusion, by creating this google form, I can accurately create a demographic profile and psychographic profile for my target audience. This has then been able to let me continue and use this information within my short film.
Interviewing an Industry Professional
As a part of primary research, one of the key factors is interviewing. I decided I was going to interview an industry professional, and that being the writer/director Jane Gull.
Jane Gull
Jane Gull, known for films such as My Feral Heart (2016) and Love Without Walls (2023), is a writer and director From Essex, England. After watching My Feral Heart at a premiere, I felt a connection with her storytelling style and directing approach. Since then I've been lucky enough to meet the actors from My Feral Heart and just hearing stories on the making of it was what got me into filmmaking. Therefore, I intend on interviewing Jane Gull for my interview section of Primary Research.

Conducting An Interview
In order to be as professional as possible, I had to plan out what I will say, and how to get the best possible answers from Jane Gull. So I decided to write a brief intro and description into the interview and my film idea. So I wrote a brief paragraph, and 6 questions that are simple yet effective. By doing this, I will hopefully achieve a valid interview to use as research.
